At last, what you’ve all been waiting for, the schedule of seminars taught by Mary Ellen Barry here at Quicksilver again in November 2024. First, in case you aren’t already familiar with this excellent competitor and teacher, here are a few words about her. if you have not worked with her before, I and many others cannot recommend her highly enough.

Mary Ellen has been participating in agility for 28 years and has been involved in all aspects of the sport including: training, competing, teaching, coaching and judging. She is a 3 time member of the IFCS team, a 5 time member of the WAO team and is currently the coach of the WAO Team USA. She has won multiple medals on the national and international stage at WAO, IFCS, Cynosports, and the US Open. She began judging in 2018 and her courses have shown to be fast and flowing for the dog, yet challenging to the handler. She lives in Norristown PA with her 4 border collies and runs a full time agility business, KineticDog, LLC which offers training and competition events.

Schedule of seminars offered:

  • Thursday November 14
    • Foundation for Backsides – 12:00 – 3:30 pm
      Learn how to teach a backside on one jump. You will learn how to teach the dog to find the correct side of a jump using verbal cues and minimal handling. Suitable for any level of dog that has a stay and understands jump commitment.
    • Foundations for Threadle Slices – 5:00 – 8:30 pm
      Learn how to teach “in” on one jump. You will learn how to teach the dog to find the correct side of a jump using verbal cues and minimal handling. Suitable for any level of dog that has a stay and understands jump commitment.
  • Friday November 15
    • Deceleration and Collection – 12:00 – 3:30 pm FULL – To be put on waiting list email Leerie.
      Do you have a long- striding dog that loves to zoom ahead of you? Learn how to harness that speed into more efficient and controlled lines. Shorter sequences of jumps and tunnels only.
    • Charging up your Blind Crosses – 5:00 – 8:30 pm
      Learn Mary Ellen’s signature “Just do it” blind crosses, where you do not wait for commitment first, you just do it and the dog magically adjusts to the correct line. She will compare and contrast layering in which the dog would stay on his line and/or bypass the jump. Contacts and/or weaves may be used. Suitable for dogs and handlers that understand the concept of blind crosses.
  • Saturday November 16
    • Extreme Challenges – 9:00 am – 12:30 pm FULL – To be put on waiting list email Leerie.
      Skills to the extreme! You will work on short sequences designed with extreme skills built in. Learn how to analyze these challenges to handle them with success and how to develop the skills necessary to master them.
    • Extreme Challenges – 2:00 – 5:30 pm
      A repeat of the morning workshop, because we expect it to fill quickly.
  • Sunday November 17
    • Short Sequences/Young Dogs – 9:00 am – 12:30 pm FULL – To be put on waiting list email Leerie.
              Sequences will be 4-11 obstacles, jumps and tunnels only. There may be some technical elements, adjusted to the level of the dog.
    • Distance Work – 2:00 – 5:30 pm FULL – To be put on waiting list email Leerie
              Teaching distance skills, and building on distance skills already in place. Training commitment and upping your own skills for handling at a distance.

Each workshop is $150 and is limited to 7 working spots. Unlimited audit spots, $75 per session. $90 for auditing both sessions in a single day. For any questions email Deb Norman.
