Over The Top Workshop: A Weekend Dedicated to Our High Arousal Dogs

Come learn how to help your dogs modulate their arousal level to find the perfect balance of excited and relaxed that they need to succeed.

Learn both practical training and the neuroscience behind it in this deep dive weekend with some of your favorite speakers: Leslie McDevitt, Julie Daniels, Hannah Branigan, Adam Skandarani, Lindsay Wood Brown, and Dr. Sophie Liu.

CEU credits have been approved by CCPDT (16.5 CEUs for trainers and 1.5 CEUs for behavior consultants).

Learn about the Neuroscience behind Arousal Regulation with Dr Sophie and Lindsay, then dive into practical ways to teach it with Leslie, Hannah, Julie and Adam. Leslie will lay a foundation from the most up to date and newest Control Unleashed exercises, Hannah and Julie will do their magic and share how they work with Over the Top dogs, to help get them regulated and comfortable whether they’re needing support at an obedience or agility trial or just needing support in their own skin. Adam will share how they use it for dogs who need arousal regulation support entering the ring and preparing to compete, for any sport. All of the skills learned, some presented in sport contexts and some presented generally, will bring you on a deep dive to understand how to support your Over the Top dog in whatever context you need.

Don’t miss this chance to see experts at teaching arousal modulation do a very rare in-person live event!

Julie Daniels
Julie Daniels (she/her) is a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI) and is also certified in TAGteach methodology (Level 1). She is owned by two Border Collies and a very dog-savvy cat. She also gets to live and work with an Australian Koolie, a Staffy mix, and a 14-yr-old Jack Russell mix.

Julie lives in Deerfield, NH, where she owns Kool Kids Agility and teaches Control Unleashed and FDSA classes. For 28 years she ran dog training camps at her world-renowned White Mountain Agility. Some of the theme camps she developed there were Wild Child, Speed-Em-Up, Novice Genius, Jumping Genius, and the WMA Instructor Certification Course, which honed the skills of hundreds of teachers and thousands of dogs worldwide.

Julie has competed and won with many different dogs including two Rottweilers, a Springer Spaniel, a Cairn Terrier, two Corgis, and five Border Collies. She is a two-time national agility champion and a two-time international champion. She’s the only person to make USDAA Grand Prix finals with a Rottie or a Springer, and she did it two times each. She was the expert voice of Cynosport agility for many years, doing livestream video commentary at international events seen all around the world.

She is the author of four agility books and three DVDs. She teaches classes for FDSA including Baby Genius, Empowerment, Cookie Jar Games, Crazy Good, Magic Mats, and Control Unleashed Pattern Games for Sports and Life Skills.

Hannah Branigan, CCUI
Hannah Branigan, the author of Awesome Obedience, is a self-proclaimed training nerd. With the belief that everyone (dogs and humans alike) learn best in an environment free of criticism, Hannah breaks down complex skills into bite-sized, accessible pieces and develops practical techniques that leave her students with a sense of achievement and success.

She is on a mission to make training fun and enjoyable for dogs and their handlers, which means optimizing positive reinforcement techniques across species. She is fascinated by behavior and learning, and passionate about bringing innovative, science-based solutions to the dog/human learning space.

Hannah has a background in both human sports and biology. Now she applies that knowledge and experience to the world of animal training and canine competitive sports. She enjoys training and competing with her own dogs in a variety of sports. Her competition obedience DVDs, Obedience FUNdamentals and Beyond FUNdamentals, have received rave reviews from trainers all over the world, and her students have earned advanced titles in multiple countries.

Hannah is the host of the popular dog training podcast, Drinking from the Toilet, which focuses on the (often inconvenient) intersection between positive reinforcement philosophy and reality. Her mentorship program, Zero to CD, gives trainers a complete, step-by-step blueprint for earning their first level obedience title with curated support along the way.

Adam Skandarani, CCUI
Adam Skandarani, CCUI has been working with dogs professionally for eight years as a pet care professional and trainer. Living with and loving two Boxers who are vastly different from each other has expanded their knowledge base and their motivation to keep learning and sharing. Their love of team sports (specifically soccer and softball) has evolved into a love for dog sports.

Adam is dedicated to helping pet and performance dogs live their best lives by providing a well-rounded training approach, with an emphasis on communication and trust. Adam’s experience training cats and parrots add depth to their understanding of the importance of positive training. Adam is actively competing in scent work with their Boxers Sansa (10 years), and Flash Gordon (5 years), as well as competition obedience with Flash. They are also a USCSS scent work judge and looking forward to becoming an obedience judge in the future.

Lindsay Wood Brown
Lindsay Wood Brown is a board-certified applied animal behaviorist (ACAAB) and holds a master’s degree in animal behavior. Lindsay’s goal is to help behavior consultants and animal shelter professionals apply behavior-change science to their everyday professional lives. Her focus is on stripping labels, flipping prevailing ideas on their sides for a better view, and honing in on systematic ways to advance strategies.

Lindsay consults for animal shelters across the country and provides 1:1 mentorship opportunities for behavior consultants. She is a faculty member for Clicker Expo and Karen Pryor Academy. She previously served as the Director of Operations for Lynchburg Humane Society in Virginia and as the Director of Animal Training and Behavior for the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Boulder, Colorado.

Sophie Liu, DVM
Dr. Sophie Liu (she/her) originally fell in love with dog behavior when she found herself with a very challenging and aggressive Doberman mix. That experience pushed Dr. Liu to dive deeply into animal behavior, dog training, and eventually to veterinary medicine. After graduating from Cornell University College of Veterinary medicine, she entered private practice in small animal general medicine and is now completing a behavior medicine residency at San Francisco SPCA.

She is particularly passionate about critical thinking, objectivity, and evidence-based practices when it comes to dog behavior. At the core of everything is her love of dog training. Dr. Liu believes there is no feeling more wonderful than a dog’s full engagement and no sight more lovely than beautiful training. She currently trains her Doberman in protection sports and her Taiwan rescue dog in agility.
